Approximately different high schools throughout Wisconsin are deated annually, based on a seven year statewide rotation cycle, to select an Initiative Scholarship recipient. After reading The Lorax to our class, Mrs. Winter provided us with materials to grow milkweed plants to help sustain the monarch butterfly population. The conference was hosted by the Ripon College Department of Communication. Students participated in three breakout sessions throughout the morning and afternoon on a variety of topics. Over elementary school students rotated through stations learning about crops, farm equipment, beekeeping, dairy cattle, wildlife, horses and small animals.
Throughout the day, the students also had the opportunity to enjoy a hayride and snack on milk and cheese. The bags included activities, and workbooks targeted toward elementary students. It was created and assembled by the Laconia FFA members. Members research a station area, help with the teacher booklets, or contact area businesses for donations.
This event is only possible with the hard work and organization of Laconia FFA members. Wisconsin agriculturists produce an excellent product that is environmentally friendly. We need to promote the great things we do in the Fond du Lac agricultural community.
